Suryapet district is adistrict in theIndian state ofTelangana.[2] The city ofSuryapet is the district headquarters. The district has three revenue divisions Suryapet, Kodad and Huzurnagar. It is sub-divided into 23 mandals. The district shares boundaries withNalgonda,Khammam,Yadadri,Jangaon andMahabubabad districts and with the state ofAndhra Pradesh.

Geography

The district is spread over an area of 3,374.41 square kilometres (1,302.87 sq mi).[3] This district is bounded byJangaon district,Mahabubabad district in the northeast,Khammam district in the east,Andhra Pradesh in the south,Nalgonda district in the west andBhuvanagiri in the northwest.

As of 2011[update]Census of India, the district has a population of 1,099,560. Suryapet has a sex ratio of 996 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 64.11%. 110,136 (10.02%) were under 6 years of age. 171,039 (15.56%) lived in urban areas. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes made up 208,326 (18.95%) and 141,271 (12.85%) of the population respectively.[5]

It is sub-divided into 23mandals.[7] Tejas Nand Lal Pawar is the present collector of the district.[8] The district consists of five municipalities.Suryapet,Kodad,Huzurnagar,Thirumalagiri andNeredcherla are the five municipalities.
