TheSupreme Court of Yukon (SCY;French:Cour suprême du Yukon) is thesuperior court having generaljurisdiction for theCanadian territory ofYukon.Civil andcriminal cases are heard by the court, as well asappeals from theYukon Territorial Court, the Yukon Small Claims Court and otherquasi-judicial boards. The court is based inWhitehorse. Appeals from the court are made to theCourt of Appeal of Yukon.
The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Yukon is Suzanne Duncan.[2]
The SCY consists of three resident judges, five judges from theNorthwest Territories andNunavut, and forty-twodeputyjudges appointed from across Canada. The rules of procedure for the SCY are based upon those of theSupreme Court of British Columbia.
Justices of the SCY are alsoex officio members of theCourt of Appeal of Yukon,Court of Appeal for the Northwest Territories, andNunavut Court of Appeal.[3]
