Sunita Mani (born December 13, 1986) is an American actress, dancer and comedian. She is best known for her television roles as Trenton in theUSA Network dramaMr. Robot (2015–2017) and Arthie Premkumar in theNetflix comedyGLOW (2017–2019).[1] Mani played the lead roles in the 2020 filmsSave Yourselves! andEvil Eye.[2]
Mani was born to Usha and Venk Mani,[3][4] fromTamil Nadu, India.[5]
She graduated fromDickson County High School in Dickson,[6] Tennessee in 2004.[4]
After studying writing atEmerson College, graduating in 2008,[7] where she gained experience in stand-up comedy, Mani joined theUpright Citizens Brigade[6] for three years, where she learned more about improv.
She began her acting career by appearing in theMTV web TV pilotWriter's Block, and in a few commercials including ones forBurger King andLevi's.[8][9][10]
Her first film appearance was inThe Unspeakable Act (2012), an American coming-of-age drama written and directed byDan Sallitt which won theSarasota Film Festival's Independent Visions Award. Mani gained public recognition for her dance performance in the music video for the song "Turn Down for What", released in December 2013. She appeared in the drama–thriller television seriesMr. Robot as Trenton.[11] In 2016, she appeared inDon't Think Twice, an episode ofBroad City, and episodes ofThe Good Place. She was cast in the 2017Netflix seriesGLOW[12] and inSpirited (film), a satire onA Christmas Carol, along side Ryan Reynolds.[13][14] In 2023, she is the voice of Ursula, a protagonist ofHBO Max's seriesScavengers Reign (2023).[15]
Mani is a member of the alt-comedy group Cocoon Central Dance Team.[16]
