TheSunak ministry began on 25 October 2022 whenRishi Sunak was invited by KingCharles III to succeedLiz Truss asPrime Minister of the United Kingdom.[1] The previous day,Sunak had been elected unopposed asleader of the Conservative Party followingTruss's resignation.[2][3] The Sunak ministry was formed from the2019 Parliament of the United Kingdom, as aConservativemajority government. Sunak reshuffled his cabinet twice, first inFebruary 2023 and later inNovember 2023.[4][5]

On 22 May 2024, Sunak announceda general election on 4 July,[6] in which theLabour Party won a landslide victory, leading to the formations of theStarmer ministry and theSunak shadow cabinet.[7]

2023 August mini-reshuffle

On 31 August 2023, Sunak carried out a mini-reshuffle.[22]Ben Wallace resigned asSecretary of State for Defence and was replaced bySecretary of State for Energy Security and Net ZeroGrant Shapps.[23] Shapps was replaced byParliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children, Families and WellbeingClaire Coutinho.[24] The new children's minister was announced as backbencher MPDavid Johnston.[25]

2024 March mini-reshuffle

On 26 March 2024, Sunak carried out a mini-reshuffle.[26]Robert Halfon resigned asMinister of State for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education and was replaced byLuke Hall.[27]James Heappey resigned asMinister of State for the Armed Forces and was replaced byLeo Docherty.[28]Nus Ghani was appointed the newMinister of State for Europe in theForeign, Commonwealth and Development Office.[29]Kevin Hollinrake was promoted to minister of state in theDepartment for Business and Trade but kept his responsibility for the postal affairs portfolio.[30]Alan Mak was promoted to being aparliamentary Under-Secretary of State jointly in theDepartment for Business and Trade and theCabinet Office.[31] In terms of internal appointments to theConservative Party, backbench MPsJonathan Gullis andAngela Richardson were made deputy party chairs.[32]
