Sugee cake is acake made ofsemolina and almonds, creamedbutter,eggs, andbrandy, and optionally covered in marzipan androyal icing.[2][1] The cake is typically baked during festive occasions and holidays like Christmas,[3] by members ofMalaccan Portuguese inMalacca and the larger Eurasian community inMalaysia andSingapore.[1] The wordsugee has its origins inHindustani word for 'semolina' (सूजी). Sugee cake is similar to the Sri LankanLove cake baked during Christmas by the EurasianBurgher people, which uses cashew as opposed to almonds.[9]
In 2020,Shake Shack adapted the flavor of the sugee cake in a limited edition milkshake, dubbed "sugee boogie."[4]
