Sucat is an administrative division in southernMetro Manila,Philippines. It is anurbanbarangay inMuntinlupa with many high-rise condominiums and commercial establishments.[2] The area is also well-known for the Sucat exit of theSouth Luzon Expressway andMetro Manila Skyway.
It is bounded on the north by BarangaysBagumbayan and South Daang Hari ofTaguig; on the south by the Sucat River and BarangaysBuli andCupang; on the west by BarangaysSan Martin de Porres, Marcelo Green,San Antonio, andBF Homes ofParañaque; and on the east byLaguna de Bay.
The name of the barangay comes from theMalay andFilipino vernacular wordsukat, which means "measurement". Historically, the community was measured several times by the Posadas family when Don Juan Posadas, who at that time had a very close association with the Spanish government officials, was themayor ofManila. He acquired all the land that he wanted to measure.[2] When it was a barrio, it was spelled as Sukat, apparently stylized inTagalog.[4]: 97
While barangays are the administrative divisions of the city, and are legally part of the addresses of establishments and homes, residents also include theirsubdivision. Listed below are the subdivisions in this barangay.[5]
Sitio Bagong Silang, located in southwestern Sucat, is disputed with the adjacent barangay ofBF Homes inParañaque.[6] Meanwhile, Sitio Pagkakaisa in barangaySan Martin de Porres, Parañaque is erroneously considered as part of Sucat, Muntinlupa; in fact, Sucat Elementary School has an annex campus in this sitio.
Barangay Sucat is the fifth most-populated barangay in Muntinlupa, with a population of 56,354 people according to the 2020 census,[3] down from a population of 57,504 in the 2015 census.[7]
