Substation 7 is atraction substation located at 1782 Third Avenue at 99th Street in theEast Harlem neighborhood ofManhattan. TheManhattan Railway Company built it next to the Third Avenue El's99th Street station toelectrify theSecond,Third andNinth Avenue elevated lines. It served as a power source for theIRT Lexington Avenue Line from 1918 until the 1970s.[2] It originally converted 25 Hz AC power from the74th Street power station, to DC for the electric motors.[3] The substation is owned by theMTA and it is listed on theNational Register of Historic Places.[4]
