Substation 219, also known as theHarlem Substation, is a historicelectrical substation located inHarlem,New York, New York. It was constructed by theIndependent Subway System in 1932 to provide power to theIND Eighth Avenue Line.[2] It is a single-story, double-height masonry building in theArt Deco style. It features a low brickparapet topped by a band oflimestone coping and a limestonefrieze consisting of diamond-shaped limestone pieces and a brickchevron pattern. The main entrance doors are faced inaluminium and incorporate Art Deco-style geometric motifs.[3]
It was listed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 2006.[1]
