Anatomical terminology

Thesubserosa ortela subserosa, is a thin layer oftissue in the walls of variousorgans. It is a layer ofconnective tissue (usually of theareolar type) between themuscular layer (muscularis externa) and the serosa (serous membrane).

The subserosa has clinical importance particularly incancer staging (for example, in stagingstomach cancer[1] oruterine cancer).

The subserosa (sub- +serosa) is to a serous membrane what thesubmucosa (sub- +mucosa) is to amucous membrane.
