Thesuboccipital nerve (first cervical dorsal ramus) is thedorsal primary ramus of the firstcervical nerve (C1). It exits thespinal cord between theskull and the firstcervical vertebra, theatlas.^[1]

It lies within thesuboccipital triangle along with thevertebral artery, where the artery enters theforamen magnum.

Upper part of medulla spinalis and hind- and mid-brains; posterior aspect, exposed in situ.
