Student Action (Azione Studentesca, AS) is afar-right student movement in Italy, formerly connected toNational Alliance and since 2016 toBrothers of Italy.
The movement was founded in 1996 byYouth Action (Azione Giovani, AS), the youth wing of National Alliance.[5] Among the early members of the association wasGiorgia Meloni, who would later become a prominent right-wing leader in Italy[6] and eventually becamePrime Minister of Italy in 2022.
The group gained notoriety when it occupied the headquarters of theFederation of Education Workers (FLC), a left-wing trade unions affiliated to theItalian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL).[7]
After National Alliance merged withForza Italia intoThe People of Freedom (PdL), Student Action was disbanded and its members joined the National Student Movement, affiliated toYoung Italy, the youth wing of the PdL.[8]
Student Action was relaunched in 2016, this time affiliated withBrothers of Italy and its youth movement, theNational Youth. The new group is considered to be much more radical than the original one, often openly supportingneo-fascist,[9]identitarian, andcommunitarian, andpaternalistic conservative positions.[1]
Student Action adapted a breton cross (a variant of theCeltic cross) as its symbol in 2016.[10]
