Stringmusic

Stringmusic is amusical composition forstring orchestra by the American composerMorton Gould. It was commissioned by theNational Symphony Orchestra and was premiered at theKennedy Center by the NSO on March 10, 1994. The piece is dedicated to the conductorMstislav Rostropovich upon his leave.[1][2]

Unanimously recommended by the jury,Stringmusic was awarded thePulitzer Prize for Music in 1995.[3]

"A large-scalesuite, orserenade, for string orchestra, comprising fivemovements[:]" "Prelude", "Tango", "Dirge", "Ballad", "Strum".[4]
