Thestreaked bulbul (Ixos malaccensis), orgreen-backed bulbul, is asongbirdspecies in thebulbulfamily (Pycnonotidae). It is found on theMalay Peninsula,Sumatra, andBorneo. Its naturalhabitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowlandforests. It is becoming rare due tohabitat loss.[2]
The current placement of the streaked bulbul in thegenusIxos is not fixed with any certainty. As the affiliations of theJavan bulbul (thetype species of the genus) remain to be re-studied, it is not yet clear if the streaked bulbul should instead be placed in the genusHemixos or possibly placed in a new genus.[3] Both the alternate name 'green-backed bulbul' and the synonymHypsipetes malaccensis are also shared with theeastern bearded greenbul. The name 'streaked bulbul' is also used as an alternate name for theJavan bulbul.
