"Stranglehold" is a song by American rock musicianTed Nugent, the first track from hisself-titled debut 1975 album. The vocals are byDerek St. Holmes, with the "Sometimes you wanna get higher" verse sung by Nugent. Nugent admits that the song was co-written byRob Grange, who received no share.[3]

"Stranglehold" is a guitar-driven track, over eight minutes long, and set the stage for Nugent's career. The guitar solo was recorded in a single take. "I used delays to create this really wild guitar duet with Ted," said producerTom Werman. "It was like two guys were playing. I sent it off to Ted for his approval. He called me up and said, 'I love what you did with Stranglehold, but don't ever do that again without asking me.'"[4]

It became an entrance theme to theNHL teamChicago Blackhawks. It was also the entrance theme used byKevin Von Erich in his professional wrestling career.[5] During his tenure with theSan Diego Padres, relief pitcherHuston Street used the song as his entrance music.[6] CurrentSan Diego Padres playerRyan O'Hearn uses the song as his walk up song for every at bat. Relief pitcherWill Smith also used the song as his entrance music when he pitched for theAtlanta Braves.[citation needed]
