Stewart Anderson (born 23 July 1985)[2] is a Scottish internationalbowls player and a world champion indoors.[3][4] He reached a career high ranking of world number 1 in September 2024.[5]
He started bowling aged just 12 with Auchinleck Indoor Juniors and outdoor with Glaisnock Valley.[6]
Having previously been a beaten finalist in the2010 World Championships (where he lost out toGreg Harlow)[7] Anderson beatPaul Foster in the final match that ended 10-10, 10-9 to secure the2013 World indoor title.[3]
In 2015 he won the triples gold medal at theAtlantic Bowls Championships.[8] During the2016 World Indoor Bowls Championship Anderson partnered up withDarren Burnett and the Scottish pair recorded their first Open Pairs title success.[9]
In 2018 he won theScottish International Open.[10] Later that season, Anderson became a two-time World Open singles champion, winning the2019 World Indoor Bowls Championship. He would defeatSimon Skelton in a tie-break in the final, where he would lose only one set in the championships.[11][12]
Anderson won the 2019Scottish National Bowls Championships pairs title with Steven Shields for Eddlewood BC.[13] In 2020 he won his fourth World indoor title by winning the mixed pairs withJulie Forrest[14] and claimed a fifth when winning the open pairs for the second time with Darren Burnett in 2022.[15]
In 2022, Anderson won the mixed pairs at the inauguralWorld Bowls Indoor Championships, partneringAlison Merrien MBE, they defeatedMichael Stepney andClaire Anderson in the final.[16] He also won the men's singles silver medal, losing to Michael Stepney in the final.
In 2022, he competed in themen's triples and themen's fours at the2022 Commonwealth Games.[17] In November 2022, he won theScottish International Open for the second time.[18]
In 2023, he won the mixed pairs final at the2023 World Indoor Bowls Championship, withCeri Ann Glen.[19][20] He also successfully defended his Scottish International title in November.[21] The good form continued as he won two all-Scottish finals at the2024 World Indoor Bowls Championship, winning his third singles title[22] and the pairs (partnering Darren Burnett again).[23]
Anderson reached number 1 in the world rankings in September 2024.[1]
He works for a joiners firm, and he married Scottish International bowlerClaire Walker in April 2019.[24] Stewart was previously engaged to fellow bowls internationalKerry Packwood with whom he has a daughter, Emma Jayne.
