Stephanie "Stevvi"Alexander is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. She was featured as an artist with theGame of Thrones Live Concert Experience in 2017,[1][2] alongside the show's composerRamin Djawadi. She has also appeared inMichael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour byCirque du Soleil.[3][4]
Alexander's mother is ofEnglish,French andGerman descent and her father isAfrican-American. Both are pastors.[5] Her father is a Pentecostal Bishop and her mother co-pastors their church, Shield of Faith, located inPomona, California, the parent church to an international roster of churches in states around the US and in countries likeBelgium,Fiji andKorea.[6] The church is active in building up the local and international community through housing programs and missions.[7]
Alexander has released an independent album,The East Side Psalmbook and is part of the songwriting/production team Band Kamp.[8] She started her career when she signed toColumbia Records with the group Saraparker under the tutelage of Sam Sapp. She worked closely with the LA based trio Star69 which featured Dawn Beckman (formerly of theJazzyfatnastees) and Sy Smith (not to be confused with the similarly named Los Angeles band "Star 69" featuring Julie Daniels.)[citation needed]
The East Side Psalmbook is a contemporary Christian album released in 2008. The album featuresRaphael Saadiq on bass. The album was produced by the duo Hollins Steele (Dayna Hollins and Benny Steele), at The Steele Factory recording studios inBrooklyn, New York.[9]
She has recorded withIncubus,Macy Gray,Colbie Caillat,Mike Posner, Q-Burns Abstract Message,Gin Wigmore, the UK bandHard-Fi,The Damned Things and toured the world with artists ranging fromFleetwood Mac,Barbra Streisand,[10]Sheryl Crow,[11][12]Britney Spears,Justin Timberlake,[13]The Roots,Gwen Stefani andDiana Ross.[citation needed]
Alexander had a recurring role onDavid E. Kelley's television showThe Wedding Bells playing a wedding singer performing both on-screen and recording the music off-screen. She has also appeared inSam Raimi’sSpider-Man as part ofMacy Gray's band and inGarry Marshall's filmNew Year's Eve playing alongsideLeah Michelle andLucy Woodward as a backing singer forJon Bon Jovi. Recently Alexander was also featured in20 Feet from Stardom, a documentary film which premiered at theSundance Film Festival in January 2013, about acclaimed background singers produced byMorgan Neville, andGil Friesen of Tremolo Productions.[14]
She released a personal collection of songs in early 2008 calledThe East Side Psalmbook which featuresRaphael Saadiq guesting on bass.[15]
Alexander has a son, Eric Alexander-Hughes, with film producer and director Allen Hughes of theHughes Brothers while the two were in high school.[16]
