Steven M. Weinreb (born May 10, 1941) is an Americanchemist and is a professor of chemistry atPennsylvania State University in United States. Together with Steven Nahm, he developed theWeinreb ketone synthesis,[1] which allows for mono-addition of anorganometallic reagent such as aGrignard reagent ororganolithium reagent to an amide.
Weinreb received his PhD for work withMarshall Gates at theUniversity of Rochester in 1967. After post-docs withGilbert Stork and George H. Buchi, he worked atFordham University. He joinedthe Pennsylvania State University in 1978, where he holds the Russell and Mildred Marker Professor of Natural Products Chemistry chair.
