Steve Kouleas (born inToronto,Ontario, Canada)[1] is aCanadiantelevision anchor, hockey broadcaster and currentlyradio host onSiriusXMNHL Network Radio channel 91 (The Power Play). Kouleas has also worked forTSN.[2][3] He hosted the weeknight hockey programThat's Hockey 2Nite onTSN2,[4] as well as the weekday hockey programThat's Hockey 2Day onTSN Radio1050.[5]

Kouleas has been working intelevision andradio throughoutNorth America for more than 20 years.[1] In 2009, he was nominated for aGemini Award forBest Sportscaster/Anchor in Canada.[6]

Kouleas was born inToronto,Ontario, Canada. He is a graduate ofRyerson University's Radio and Television Arts program.[1] He is ofMacedonian descent.[citation needed]

Broadcasting career

Kouleas has worked in thetelevision andradio industry inCanada and theUnited States for more than 20 years.[1] He formerly worked forThe Score from 1997 to 2010, covering theNational Hockey League (NHL). He last worked forThe Sports Network (TSN), and hosted the weeknight hockey programThat's Hockey 2Nite onTSN2,[4] as well as the weekday hockey programThat's Hockey 2Day onTSN Radio1050.[5] Kouleas has also worked forCBC,CBS,ESPN, andNBC.[1] He coveredTeam Canada during the2010 Winter Olympics.[1]

Television

Kouleas began his career atThe Sports Network (TSN) as anassociate producer ofSportsDesk in 1990, and worked at the network for seven years.[7] He decided to step away from producing, and instead joinedThe Score as its leadanchor. Following his departure from TSN, Kouleas worked atThe Score as its leadanchor for thirteen years. While at The Score, Kouleas covered numerous sports and sporting events, including theNational Hockey League (NHL)'sStanley Cup Finals,trade deadline, andEntry Draft. He also covered several topics for theNational Basketball Association (NBA).[7] After thirteen years with The Score, Kouleas parted ways with the network.[8]

TSN announced on December 8, 2010 that Kouleas would re-join the network, as a part of theirNational Hockey League (NHL) broadcast team. Kouleas hosts the weeknight hockey programThat's Hockey 2Nite, which premiered on February 1, 2011 onTSN2.[4]

As of the start of the 2014-2015 NHL season, Kouleas was no longer listed as a member of TSN's talent.[9]

Radio

Kouleas hosts a weekday hockey show on SiriusXM the NHL Network called The Power Play airs on channel 91 from 3-6pm EST. Steve has also hosted onTSN Radio1050 which debuted on April 13, 2011 calledThat's Hockey 2Day.[10] He previously hosted the interactive radio show,Live from Wayne Gretzky's, which is taped at Wayne Gretzky’s Restaurant[11] in Toronto, Ontario.[7] Kouleas has also done radio and television play-by-play for theBuffalo Sabres of theNational Hockey League (NHL), as well as theAmerican Hockey League (AHL). He has made radio appearances onSirius Satellite Radio andXM Satellite Radio. He has also called play-by-play for other minor and junior hockey leagues.[1]

Honours

On August 25, 2009,[12] Kouleas was nominated for aGemini Award forBest Sportscaster/Anchor in Canada, alongside futureTSN co-workersJames Duthie (as anchor on theNHL on TSN'sTradeCentre '09 panel), andDarren Dutchyshen (as co-host ofSportsCentre).[6] Duthie would go on to win the award.[13]
