He studied art and music atTemple University before moving to New York City.[ 4] Gunn was formerly a guitarist inKurt Vile 's backing band, The Violators.[ 5] [ 6]
Gunn has stated that his musical influences includeMichael Chapman ,La Monte Young ,Indian music ,John Fahey ,Jack Rose ,Robbie Basho , andSandy Bull .[ 3]
In July 2021 he performed as a solo act at theNewport Folk Festival .[ 7]
