Davis was born in New York City and attendedBoston University . He began his career writing for theBoston Phoenix in 1970.[ 1] Hisjournalism has appeared inRolling Stone ,The New York Times , theBoston Globe and numerous other newspapers and magazines.[ 1]
The negativity and purported inaccuracy of his Led Zeppelin biographyHammer of the Gods , along with other controversial works, earned him the nickname "Stephen Salacious".[ 2]
