Stelpaviricetes is a class ofnon-enveloped,positive-strand RNA viruses which infectplants andanimals.[1] Characteristic of the group is aVPg protein attached to the5'-end of the genome and a conserved3C-like protease from thePA clan of proteases for processing the translatedpolyprotein.[2][3] The name of the group is asyllabic abbreviation of member orders "stellavirales,patatavirales" with the suffix-viricetes denoting avirus class.[4]
