Ottavia Stella Merendino (born 8 April 1994) is a German politician. She is a member of theLeft Party and was elected to theBundestag in the2025 German federal election.[1]
Stella Merdendino was born on 8 April 1994, inGdańsk, Poland.[1] and grew up inWedding.[2] Her mother is Polish and her father is Italian. Merendino worked as a nurse in the emergency room atVivantes Humboldt Hospital [de]. As a nurse, she was active in thever.di union campaign for more staff in the emergency room (Tarifvertrag Entlastung).[3] In 2021, she began a part-time degree programme in "Advanced Clinical Nursing with a Focus on Emergency Nursing".[4]
In 2023, Stella Merendino joinedDie Linke after attacks on nursing staff at her hospital.[3][4] In addition to health policy, tenant protection is also an issue for Merendino.[5] She seeshousing as a fundamental right, and demands that rents be reduced, and that a nationwiderent cap be introduced.[5] In December 2024, her candidacy for theBundestag inBerlin-Mitte was announced. In thefederal election of February 2025, she was elected to the Bundestag via thestate list.[6] Her candidacy was supported byBrand New Bundestag.[7]
