Nuendo is adigital audio workstation (DAW) developed bySteinberg for music recording, arranging, editing, andpost-production. The package is aimed at audio and video post-production market segments (marketed as a 'Premium Media Production System', in contrast toSteinberg's otherDAW software,Cubase, which is marketed as an 'Advanced Music Production System'[2]), but also contains optional modules that can be used for multiple multimedia creation and audio sequencing.[2][3]
The first version of Nuendo was released bySteinberg in the year 2000.[4] Version 2 followed in 2003, introducing multiple aspects of functionality previously found in theSX version ofSteinberg's otherDAW,Cubase, at the time.[5]
Version 3 of Nuendo was released in 2005, shortly after the sale ofSteinberg to the Japanesemultinational corporation andconglomerateYamaha. It was the first version of the software to support theAAF file format.[6]
Version 4 (September 2007) introduced a newautomation system and newVST3 formatplug-ins;[7] version 5 (July 2010) added new tools forADR andsound design;[8] and version 6 (September 2013) included newloudness metering and a newmixing console.[3][9]
Nuendo version 7 was first previewed at theGame Developers Conference in March 2015,[10] then released in June 2015.[11] It introduced a feature known asGame Audio Connect, allowing for direct transfer of audio assets usingAudiokinetic's Wwise middleware.[11]
Version 8 of Nuendo was released in June 2017, featuring version 2 of theGame Audio Connect functionality, soundrandomization, and new offline processing features.[12]
Version 10 had been announced and previewed at GDC 2019 in San Francisco on 20–22 March 2019,[13] then released on 24 April 2019[14]
