Stefanie Vögele (born 10 March 1990) is a Swiss professionaltennis player. She achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 42 on 11 November 2013. Her highestWTA ranking in doubles is 100, which she reached on 5 January 2015. Over her career, she has defeated top ten playersSloane Stephens andCaroline Wozniacki.

Vögele announced her retirement from tennis in November 2022.[1]

Biography

Vögele who has three sisters was introduced to tennis at the age of four by her parents.[2] Her coach wasIvo Werner.

Professional career

2009

For the first five months of the year, Vögele participated in severalWTA Tour events, needing to play through the qualifying rounds of most tournaments. During this period, she never won a main-draw match in such an event.[3]

In June, Vögele played inBirmingham, defeating seededEkaterina Makarova en route to a quarterfinal showing.[4] Playing atWimbledon for the first time, she lost to defending championVenus Williams in the first round.[5]

Vögele had strong showings in July, advancing to the second round and semifinals inPrague andPortorož, respectively.[6]

2010

Vögele began the season atAuckland and lost in the first round toSania Mirza.[7] AtSydney, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying byChang Kai-chen. At theAustralian Open, she made it to the second round where she lost to seventh seedVictoria Azarenka.

Playing as a wildcard atDubai, Vögele upset 15th seedNadia Petrova in the first round[8] and was defeated in the second by Russian qualifier Regina Kulikova.[9] At theMalaysian Open, Vögele lost in the first round to Chanelle Scheepers.[10] In March, she competed atIndian Wells where she was defeated in the first round by qualifierChan Yung-jan. Vögele fell in the first round of theMiami Open toAlizé Cornet.

At her first clay-court tournament of the season, inAndalucia, she lost in the first round to fifth seedMaría José Martínez Sánchez.[11] Staying in Spain to play at theBarcelona Open, Vögele was defeated in the first round by wildcardArantxa Parra Santonja.

She began the season atBrisbane where she defeated Australian wildcardSally Peers in the first round of qualifying, and in the secondAkgul Amanmuradova. However, in the final round, she lost to top seedVania King. AtSydney, Vögele qualified by defeatingVictoria Larrière,Michaëlla Krajicek, andBojana Jovanovski. In the first round, she lost to third seed and eventual champion, Victoria Azarenka, in straight sets.[12] As the 20th seed, Vögele qualified for theAustralian Open by defeatingLara Arruabarrena,Mihaela Buzărnescu, andMichelle Larcher de Brito. In the main draw, she lost to 14th seedSabine Lisicki, in three sets.[13]

At theCopa Colsanitas, she lost in the first round to top seedMarina Erakovic. However, in doubles, Vögele and her partnerMandy Minella reached the final where they lost to top seedsEva Birnerová/Alexandra Panova, 2–6, 2–6.[14] At theMonterrey Open, she lost in the first round to third seedSorana Cîrstea.[15] Then Vögele competed at the $25k tournament in Clearwater, Florida. She defeatedAllie Kiick andHsieh Su-wei, and in the quarterfinals,Camila Giorgi. In the semifinals, she lost toGarbiñe Muguruza, 1–6, 2–6. At theMiami Open, Vögele lost in the first round of qualifying to 24th seedValeria Savinykh. At the $50k tournament in Osprey, Florida, she defeatedMirjana Lučić-Baroni, before losing toEdina Gallovits.

Vögele, as the ninth seed, qualified for theCharleston Open by defeatingAni Mijačika and 16th seedCaroline Garcia. In the first round, she defeatedJarmila Gajdošová in three sets,[16] and in the secondLucie Hradecká. In the third round, Vögele lost to fourth seedVera Zvonareva.[17] At theDanish Open, she lost in round one to Bojana Jovanovski.[18] Seeded fourth for qualifying atBudapest, she lost in the first round toRika Fujiwara in two tiebreakers. At the $100k tournament in Prague, she defeatedStéphanie Foretz in the first round but then, she withdrew from her match againstAyumi Morita. Seeded ninth for qualifying at theFrench Open, Vögele beatNoppawan Lertcheewakarn in the first round 6–0, 6–4. In the second round of qualifying, Vögele lost toJulia Cohen.

Seeded eighth for qualifying atWimbledon, Vögele defeatedGrace Min in the first round and in the second, she lost toKristýna Plíšková in three sets.

At the $100k tournament in Biella, she was beaten in the first round byAlexandra Cadanţu.[19] At the $100k event in Biarritz, Vögele defeatedAmra Sadiković in three sets, before she lost toRomina Oprandi. At the $100k event in Bucharest, she lost in the second round toIrina-Camelia Begu. At the $100k tournament in Olomouc againstYvonne Meusburger, Vögele suffered another first-round loss.

As the 27th seed, she qualified for theUS Open by defeatingPetra Rampre,Ekaterina Bychkova, andHeidi El Tabakh, before losing to fellow qualifierEdina Gallovits-Hall in two sets.[20]

Vögele lost in the final of the $75k event in Shrewsbury toAnnika Beck, in straight sets.[21] However, she bounced back by winning the $25k tournament in Clermont-Ferrand defeatingTatjana Malek in the final, in straight sets. At theLadies Linz, Vögele beat Malek in the first round of qualifying, but in the second she lost to top seed Irina-Camelia Begu. She lost her semifinal at the $50k event in Limoges toClaire Feuerstein in a narrow three-setter. At the $100k tournament in Poitiers, she lost in the quarterfinals toMonica Puig.

2013

Vögele began the year by playing at the first edition of theShenzhen Open. As the top seed in qualifying, she qualified by beatingZarina Diyas and fifth seed Caroline Garcia. In the first round, she defeatedTímea Babos.[22] In the second round, Vögele lost to second seed Marion Bartoli.[23] Competing in Melbourne at theAustralian Open, Vögele lost in the first round to 30th seed Tamira Paszek.[24]

Vögele qualified for theParis Indoors by defeating eighth seedMandy Minella, Stéphanie Foretz, and Monica Puig. After winning her first-round match overTsvetana Pironkova, she lost in the second round to second seed and 2011 Open GdF Suez champion,Petra Kvitová.[25] Vögele reached the semifinals of theU.S. Indoor Championships by defeating Sílvia Soler Espinosa, qualifier Claire Feuerstein, and fourth seedHeather Watson. She was defeated in her semifinal match by eventual champion Marina Erakovic.[26] As the top seed for qualifying at theIndian Wells Open, Vögele lost in the final round of qualifying to 17th seed Mirjana Lučić-Baroni.[27] After losing in the final round of qualifying, she received a lucky loser spot into the main draw. She defeated Petra Martić,[28] before she lost in the second round to tenth seed Nadia Petrova.[29] Seeded second for qualifying at theMiami Open, Vögele qualified for the main draw by beating Alexandra Cadanţu and 21st seedGalina Voskoboeva. In the first round, she again defeated Petra Martić. Vögele was defeated in the second round by 30th seed Kirsten Flipkens.[30]

Vögele began her clay-court season atCharleston where she started off the tournament by defeating qualifierTeliana Pereira in the first round. In the second round, she upset seventh seed Carla Suárez Navarro.[31] In the third round, she upset 10th seedJulia Görges.[32] In the quarterfinals, Vögele had a huge win over 2011 Charleston champion, second seed, and former world No. 1,Caroline Wozniacki.[33] With this win, she reached her second semifinal of the year. Vögele lost in the semifinal to another former world No. 1,Jelena Janković.[34] Playing against Australia at the2013 Fed Cup World Group play-offs, Vögele lost both of her rubbers toAshleigh Barty andSamantha Stosur. Australia defeated Switzerland 3–1.[35] Seeded third for qualifying at theMadrid Open, Vögele lost in the final round of qualifying to 13th seedLesia Tsurenko. However, she entered the main draw as a lucky loser but was defeated in the first round by wildcardAnabel Medina Garrigues.[36] Seeded second for qualifying at theItalian Open, Vögele lost in the first round of qualifying toMaría Teresa Torró Flor. Playing at theBrussels Open, Vögele was defeated in the first round by wildcardElena Baltacha.[37] Ranked 56 at theFrench Open, Vögele advanced to the third round of a major for the first time in her career. She started off with a three-set victory over Heather Watson in the first round.[38] In the second round, she won a three-set thriller overKaia Kanepi.[39] Her run came to an end as she lost in round three to 12th seedMaria Kirilenko.[40]

Vögele began her grass-court season at theRosmalen Open where she defeated qualifierYulia Putintseva, before losing in the second round to lucky loser Lesia Tsurenko. AtWimbledon, she lost in the opening round to 22nd seed Sorana Cîrstea.

Vögele began theUS Open Series at theStanford Classic where she defeated wildcardAjla Tomljanović in the first round 6–4, 6–0.[41] In the second round, she lost to third seed and eventual champion,Dominika Cibulková.[42] Playing at theWashington Open, Vögele lost in the first round to sixth seed Mona Barthel.[43] Seeded fifth for qualifying atCincinnati, she lost in the first round toSofia Arvidsson. Seeded fifth for qualifying atNew Haven, she qualified by defeating American wildcardKaterina Stewart, Alexandra Cadanţu, andYaroslava Shvedova but then lost to fellow qualifierAlison Riske. At theUS Open, Vögele lost in the first round to world No. 105,Anna Karolína Schmiedlová.

Playing at thePan Pacific Open, she lost in the first round to ninth seedSloane Stephens 3–6, 2–6.[44] At theChina Open, Vögele lost in the first round to 2011 China Open champion and third seedAgnieszka Radwańska.[45] Vögele reached her third semifinal of the year at theLadies Linz by defeatingKlára Zakopalová, Karin Knapp, and second seed Sloane Stephens. In the semifinal, she lost to third seed and eventual finalistAna Ivanovic in straight sets.[46] Her final tournament of the year was theLuxembourg Open where she reached the semifinals by defeating sixth seed Mona Barthel, Karolína Plíšková, and second seed Sloane Stephens. Vögele retired in her semifinal-match against eventual finalistAnnika Beck at 7–5, 1–0 due to a left thigh injury.[47]

Vögele began the year by playing atBrisbane. In the first round, she defeatedMadison Keys 6–4, 6–3. In the second round, she received a walkover when seventh seed Sabine Lisicki withdrew due to gastrointestinal illness.[48] In the quarterfinals, Vögele lost to second seed and eventual finalist, Victoria Azarenka.[49] At theAustralian Open, she defeated Kristina Mladenovic in the first round 7–5, 7–5. In the second round, she lost to 20th seed and eventual finalist Dominika Cibulková, 0–6, 1–6.

After the Australian Open, Vögele competed inParis. In the first round, she lost in a narrow match to qualifier Galina Voskoboeva.[50] Playing against France at the2014 Fed Cup World Group II, Vögele lost the only rubber she played toVirginie Razzano. France ended up defeating Switzerland 3–2. At theQatar Open, Vögele defeated Alizé Cornet in the first round, 7–6, 7–5.[51] In the second round, she lost to wildcardAlisa Kleybanova.[52] Seeded seventh at theMexican Open, Vögele lost in the first round toKimiko Date-Krumm.[53] AtIndian Wells, she lost in the first round to Annika Beck in three sets.[54] InMiami, Vögele lost in the first round to wildcardCasey Dellacqua in straight sets.

She began clay-court season atCharleston where she was the last year semifinalist. In the first round, she lost toAjla Tomljanović.[55] Vögele then competed at theMorocco Open. She defeated Sílvia Soler Espinosa, and in the second round, she lost to fifth seed and eventual semifinalist Garbiñe Muguruza. At thePortugal Open, she lost in the first round toPolona Hercog. At theMadrid Open, Vögele lost in the first round to qualifierPetra Cetkovská 1–6, 3–6. Seeded 12th for qualifying at theItalian Open, she defeated wildcardCorinna Dentoni in the first round of qualifying. In the final round, Vögele lost to fourth seedChristina McHale. At theInternationaux de Strasbourg, she lost in the first round to qualifier and eventual finalistSílvia Soler Espinosa. At theFrench Open, she defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam in the first round, 6–7, 7–5, 6–2. In the second round, Vögele lost to 28th seed and eventual semifinalistAndrea Petkovic in three sets.

She lost in the first round to 12th seed Monica Puig.[56] At theEastbourne International, she defeated in the first round of qualifyingVesna Dolonc, and in the second, she lost to top seed Karolína Plíšková. InWimbledon, she lost in the first round to wildcardJarmila Gajdošová.[57]

Vögele then played at theGastein Ladies where she defeatedJulia Görges,[58] and in the second round, she upset fifth seedElina Svitolina, 6–2, 7–5.[59] In the quarterfinals, she lost to fourth seed and eventual champion Andrea Petkovic.[60] At theİstanbul Cup, Vögele defeated Tsvetana Pironkova in the first round 6–4, 7–5. In the second, she lost this time to fourth seed Svitolina, 0–6, 3–6.[61] At theBaku Cup, Vögele defeated Alexandra Cadanţu in the first round 6–1, 6–4. In the second round, she upset top seed Sorana Cîrstea 6–1, 6–1.[62] In the quarterfinals, she won against last year finalistShahar Pe'er in three sets to reach her first semifinal of the year. In the semifinals, she lost to fifth seed and eventual finalist Bojana Jovanovski in three sets.[63]

At theConnecticut Open, Vögele lost in the first round of qualifying to AmericanNicole Gibbs. At theUS Open, she lost in the first round to qualifierZheng Saisai.

After the US Open, Vögele played at theKorea Open. In the first round, she lost to Kristýna Plíšková.[64] After Korea, Vögele competed at the first edition of theWuhan Open. Seeded 12th for qualifying, Vögele defeated wildcardRan Tian in the first round of qualifying. In the final round of qualifying, Vögele defeatedBethanie Mattek-Sands to qualify for the main draw. In the first round, she lost to fellow qualifier and compatriotTimea Bacsinszky. Seeded eighth for qualifying at theChina Open, Vögele defeated Mandy Minella in the first round 6–1, 6–2. In the final round of qualifying, she lost to Mattek-Sands. After that, she competed atLinz where she was the last year semifinalist. In the first round, she defeated sixth seedBarbora Záhlavová-Strýcová, 7–6, 7–5,[65] and in the second round Anna Karolína Schmiedlová, 2–6, 6–1, 6–4.[66] In the quarterfinals, Vögele lost to qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam.[67] Last year semifinalist at theLuxembourg Open, Vögele lost in the first round toAlison Van Uytvanck. At the $100k tournament in Poitiers, she lost in the first round toAliaksandra Sasnovich. Her final tournament of the year was theOpen de Limoges. Seeded seventh, she defeatedKateřina Siniaková in the first round, and in the second lost to lucky loserRichèl Hogenkamp.

Vögele began the year at theShenzhen Open. She lost in the first round to compatriot, eighth seed, and eventual finalist Timea Bacsinszky.[68] Vögele played at theSydney International where she defeated Australian wildcardArina Rodionova in the first round of qualifying, 6–2, 6–3, before losing to Lesia Tsurenko. At theAustralian Open, she defeatedPauline Parmentier in the first round but then was beaten by Caroline Garcia.[69]

At theThailand Open, Vögele lost in the first round to seventh seed Monica Puig.[70] Seeded 11th for qualifying atDubai, Vögele lost in the first round toMisa Eguchi. She qualified for theQatar Open by defeatingYuliya Beygelzimer, Francesca Schiavone, and Yulia Putintseva. But in the first round, she lost to Karolína Plíšková.[71] At theMalaysian Open, Vögele lost in the first round to sixth seedKurumi Nara.[72] Seeded 17th for qualifying at theMiami Open, Vögele qualified for the main draw by defeatingShahar Pe'er andZhu Lin. In the first round, she beat Kirsten Flipkens 6–2, 6–2. In the second round, Vögele lost to 12th seed and eventual finalist Carla Suárez Navarro.[73]

Vögele began her clay-court season atCharleston again with a first-round loss, to Yaroslava Shvedova. Seeded 16th for qualifying at theMadrid Open, she defeated wildcard Olga Sáez Larrabut in the final round, but lost to seventh seed Mirjana Lučić-Baroni. At theNürnberger Versicherungscup, Vögele defeated qualifier Renata Voráčová in the first round; in the second round, she lost to seventh seed Kurumi Nara. At theFrench Open, she lost in the first round toVitalia Diatchenko. At the $100k tournament in Marseille, Vögele lost in round one to Maryna Zanevska.

In the grass-court season, at the first edition of theNottingham Open, she was beaten by Lučić-Baroni in the first round. AtBirmingham, Vögele lost in the first round of qualifying toÇağla Büyükakçay. AtWimbledon, she lost in the first round to 21st seed Madison Keys, in three sets.[74]

Vögele then played at the $100k tournament in Contrexéville and defeatedLara Michel in the first round and Jeļena Ostapenko in the second. In the quarterfinals, Vögele lost to Teliana Pereira.[75] At theBucharest Open, she lost in the first round toAnna Tatishvili. At theGastein Ladies, she was defeated in the first round byJohanna Larsson, 6–2, 6–2.[76] At theBaku Cup, Vögele lost in the first round to second seed Karin Knapp.

Seeded 28th for qualifying at theUS Open, Vögele lost in the first round to Mandy Minella. Seeded sixth for qualifying at theJapan Open, Vögele lost in the first round toHiroko Kuwata. Seeded seventh for qualifying at thePan Pacific Open, Vögele defeatedJunri Namigata but lost toMisa Eguchi. At theTashkent Open, she qualified for the main draw by defeating wildcardVlada Ekshibarova and eighth seed Ekaterina Bychkova. In the quarterfinals, she lost to Pauline Parmentier.

AtLimoges, Vögele lost in the first round to lucky loser Mandy Minella. Seeded seventh at theTaipei Challenger, she defeatedLee Ya-hsuan in the first round. In the second round, she beatMaria Sakkari 6–1, 6–1. In the quarterfinals, she lost to fourth seed and eventual championTímea Babos.[82] At the $75k+H event in Toyota, Vögele defeatedAnkita Raina in the first round 6–1, 6–4 and lost in the second toLuksika Kumkhum, 2–6, 3–6.

Her final tournament of the year was the $25k tournament in Bangkok. She defeatedKyoka Okamura, 6–1, 6–4, before she lost toRan Tian in the second round.

2016

Vögele began the year at theShenzhen Open where she lost in the final round of qualifying to eighth seedZhang Kailin. However, due to Magda Linette pulling out of the tournament because of gastrointestinal illness, Vögele entered the main draw as a lucky loser. She was defeated in the first round by Vania King.[83] InSydney, Vögele lost in the first round of qualifying toLauren Davis. At theAustralian Open, she was defeated in the second round of qualifying by Luksika Kumkhum.[84]

Seeded second at theEngie Open, Vögele won the tournament beatingAn-Sophie Mestach in the final.[85] Competing at the first edition of theTaiwan Open, Vögele made it to the quarterfinal round where she retired against third seed Yulia Putintseva due to dizziness.[86] At theQatar Open, Vögele lost in the final round of qualifying to Kirsten Flipkens.[87] At theMalaysian Open, Vögele was defeated in the first round by Kristína Kučová.[88] She fell in the first round of qualifying at theMiami Open to Lourdes Domínguez Lino.[89] Seeded fourth at theOpen de Seine-et-Marne, Vögele reached the quarterfinal round where she lost to eighth seed Océane Dodin. Playing in Poland at theKatowice Open, Vögele upset sixth seed Lesia Tsurenko in the first round.[90] She was defeated in the second round byMagda Linette.[91]

Beginning her clay-court season in Turkey at theİstanbul Cup, Vögele reached her first semifinal of the year where she lost to eventual champion Çağla Büyükakçay.[92] At thePrague Open, she was defeated in the first round by third seed and defending champion Karolína Plíšková.[93] Seeded fifth at theOpen de Cagnes-sur-Mer, Vögele lost in the quarterfinal round to fourth seed and eventual champion Magda Linette. At theFrench Open, Vögele was defeated in the second round of qualifying byBarbara Haas.[94]

In Croatia at theBol Open, Vögele made it to the quarterfinal round where she lost to fourth seedNao Hibino.[95]

Starting her grass-court season at theRosmalen Open, Vögele was defeated in the first round by Nao Hibino. At the first edition of theMallorca Open, she lost in her first-round match to eventual championAnastasija Sevastova.[96] At theWimbledon Championships, Vögele was defeated in the first round by 22nd seed and former world No. 1, Jelena Janković.[97]

Seeded third at theLorraine Open, Vögele retired during her first-round match against Laura Pous Tió. Playing at theLadies Championship Gstaad, she lost in the first round toCarina Witthöft.[98] At theSwedish Open, Vögele was defeated in the final round of qualifying bySara Sorribes Tormo.

In Connecticut at theConnecticut Open, she lost in the first round of qualifying to American wildcardDanielle Collins.[99] At the final Grand Slam tournament of the year, theUS Open, she was defeated in the first round by Kurumi Nara.[100]

At theKorea Open, Vögele lost her first-round match to Bethanie Mattek-Sands.[101] Vögele reached her fourth WTA quarterfinal of the year at theTashkent Open where she was defeated by Kateryna Kozlova.[102] At theGenerali Ladies Linz, Vögele lost in the final round of qualifying to Océane Dodin. Playing at theLuxembourg Open, Vögele retired during her first round of qualifying match toElise Mertens. Seeded eighth at theInternationaux de la Vienne, she was defeated in the first round byIsabella Shinikova. Vögele's final tournament of the season was at theOpen de Limoges. Seeded eighth, she made it to the quarterfinal round where she lost to second seed Alizé Cornet.

Vögele ended the year ranked 113.

2017–18

Vögele kicked off her 2017 season at theShenzhen Open. Coming through qualifying, she lost in the first round to fellow qualifierOns Jabeur.[103] Getting past qualifying at theAustralian Open, Vögele won her first round match over Kurumi Nara.[104] She was defeated in the second round by 13th seed and seven-time Grand Slam champion, Venus Williams.[105]

She reached the final at the2018 Abierto Mexicano Telcel, losing to seventh seed and defending championLesia Tsurenko in three sets.[106]

Vögele started her year atAuckland where she lost in the first round to Sara Sorribes Tormo. InSydney, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying by Ekaterina Alexandrova. At theAustralian Open, she lost in the first round to 28th seed Hsieh Su-wei.[107]

Vögele played at theThailand Open where she was defeated in the first round by sixth seed and eventual finalist Ajla Tomljanović.[108] Despite losing in the final round of qualifying at theDubai Championships, she made it into the main draw as a lucky loser. She was defeated in the second round by compatriot and eventual champion,Belinda Bencic. Making it past qualifying at theIndian Wells Open, she stunned fourth seed, Sloane Stephens, in the second round.[109] She lost in the third round to eventual championBianca Andreescu.[110] At theMiami Open, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying by Tímea Babos. She lost in the second round at theMonterrey Open to eighth seedMagdaléna Rybáriková.[111]

Playing in her country at theLadies Open Lugano, Vögele reached the quarterfinals where she was defeated byFiona Ferro.[112] At thePrague Open, she lost in the first round toJana Čepelová.[113] Seeded third at theOpen de Cagnes-sur-Mer, she made it to the final where she was defeated by Christina McHale.[114] Seeded third at theSolgironès Open Catalunya, she lost in the second round to qualifierMarta Kostyuk. At theFrench Open, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying byXu Shilin.[115]

Vögele lost in the second round of theBol Open to top seed, defending champion, and eventual championTamara Zidanšek.[116] As the top seed at theTorneo Internazionale Antico Tiro a Volo in Rome, she was defeated in the first round by ItalianJessica Pieri.[117]

Playing one grass-court tournament before Wimbledon inEastbourne, Vögele lost in the first round of qualifying to Jessica Pegula. At theWimbledon Championships, she was defeated in the first round by two-time quarterfinalist Kaia Kanepi.[118]

Seeded second and defending champion at theContrexéville Open, Vögele reached the semifinals where she lost toKatarina Zavatska.[119] At theLadies Open Lausanne, she was defeated in the first round by fourth seed Mihaela Buzărnescu.[120]

2020

Vögele kicked off 2020 at theShenzhen Open. She lost in the first round of qualifying to Irina-Camelia Begu. At theAustralian Open, she was defeated in the final round of qualifying by Monica Niculescu.[121]

Seeded sixth at theNewport Beach Challenger, she reached the final where she lost to fifth seedMadison Brengle.[122] At theMexican Open, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying by Sara Errani. She remained in Mexico to compete at theMonterrey Open. Coming through qualifying, she lost in the first round toLeylah Fernandez.[123]

Due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, the WTA suspended tournaments from the end of March to July.

When the tour resumed in August, Vögele competed at theCincinnati Open. She was defeated in the first round of qualifying byArantxa Rus. At theUS Open, she lost her first-round match to 15th seed Maria Sakkari.[124]

Vögele played two tournaments before the French Open. She was defeated in the first round of theİstanbul Cup byJasmine Paolini. InRome, she lost in the final round of qualifying toAnna Blinkova. At theFrench Open, she fell in the first round toPatricia Maria Țig.[125]

At the first edition of theOstrava Open, Vögele was defeated in the first round of qualifying byVeronika Kudermetova.[126] She played her final tournament of the year at theLadies Linz. Getting past qualifying, she made it to the second round where she lost to top seed and eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka.[127]

Vögele ended the year ranked 116.

2021

Vögele started her 2021 season at theOpen Andrézieux-Bouthéon. Seeded third, she lost in the second round toLaura Ioana Paar. At theAustralian Open, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying byKatharina Gerlach.[128]

In March, Vögele competed at theLyon Open. She was eliminated in the second round by seventh seedPaula Badosa.[129] At theSt. Petersburg Trophy, she was beaten in the first round by Tereza Martincová.[130]

Vögele began her clay-court season in April at theCopa Colsanitas. She reached the quarterfinals where she fell to eventual championCamila Osorio.[131] At the first edition of theMUSC Health Women's Open, she lost in the first round to top seed and eventual finalist, Ons Jabeur.[132] Coming through qualifying inStuttgart, she was defeated in the first round by Jeļena Ostapenko.[133] She was eliminated in the final round of qualifying at theMadrid Open by Irina-Camelia Begu. At theOpen de Saint-Malo, she was defeated in her first-round match by seventh seedNina Stojanović. Seeded sixth at theSolgironès Open Catalunya, she lost in the first round toVictoria Jiménez Kasintseva. At the first edition of theEmilia-Romagna Open, she reached the final round of qualifying where she was beaten byPaula Ormaechea. Making it through qualifying at theFrench Open, she lost in the first round to Jasmine Paolini.[134]

InBerlin, Vögele made it to the final round of qualifying where she fell toAsia Muhammad. AtWimbledon, she was defeated in the first round of qualifying by Muhammad.

Seeded third atContrexéville, Vögele was eliminated in the first round by French qualifierLéolia Jeanjean.[135] InLausanne, she was beaten in the second round by Maryna Zanevska. In August, she competed at theUS Open where she lost in the final round of qualifying toAna Konjuh.[136] However, due toJennifer Brady pulling out of the tournament due to injury, Vögele entered the main draw as a lucky loser.[137] She was eliminated in the first round by fellow qualifier and eventual champion,Emma Raducanu.[138]

Vögele played at theLuxembourg Open where she fell in her first-round match to fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.[139]
