Steenvoorde (French pronunciation:[stɛ̃vɔʁd]) is acommune in theNorddepartment in northernFrance.[3] Once part of theSeventeen Provinces of the Low Countries, Steenvoorde was the site of the beginning of theBeeldenstorm, or "Iconoclastic Fury." Today the city is known for itsGéants du Nord, sculptures ofgiants that can be admired in summer festivals.[4]
Steenvoorde has anoceanic climate (Köppen climate classificationCfb). The average annual temperature in Steenvoorde is 11.2 °C (52.2 °F). The average annual rainfall is 727.8 mm (28.65 in) with November as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in July, at around 18.5 °C (65.3 °F), and lowest in January, at around 4.5 °C (40.1 °F).
