Steatornithidae is a family ofbirds comprising a single extant species, theoilbird (Steatornis caripensis) and the extinct genusEuronyctibius.[1]
Steatornithidae is currently considered the only member of the orderSteatornithiformes, however, in the past, it was classified in the orderCaprimulgiformes, along with all other members of the cladeStrisores. Prior to the Hackett et al.[2] phylogeny most taxonomies circumscribed Caprimulgiformes as aparaphyletic comprising thenocturnal strisoreans.
