TheEllis Arnall statue is a publicmonument located on the grounds of theGeorgia State Capitol inAtlanta,Georgia. HonoringGeorgia GovernorEllis Arnall, the statue was sculpted byZenos Frudakis and unveiled in 1997.

History

Ellis Arnall served asGovernor of Georgia from 1943 to 1947 who is best known for hisprogressive policies such as ending thepoll tax in Georgia and lowering thevoting age in the state to 18.[1] Arnall died in 1992 at the age of 85.[2] Following his death, hislaw firm pushed for a statue honoring the late governor to be erected on the Capitol grounds, which happened several years later in 1997.[2] The unveiling took place on November 24 of that year,[1] with then-governorZell Miller speaking at the ceremony.[3] The statue was designed by sculptorZenos Frudakis[4] and faces towards the nearbyCentral Presbyterian Church.[5] It is among several statues near the state capitol honoring former governors and other prominent Georgians.[2]
