Starshina 2nd class (Russian:Старшина́ второй статьи́,romanized: Starshiná vtoroy stat'í,lit. 'Older second article') is a rank used by theRussian Navy and a number offormer communist states. The rank is anon-commissioned officer and is equivalent toJunior sergeant in armies and air forces. Within NATO forces, the rank is rated as OR-5 and is equivalent toPetty officer second class orPetty officer in English speaking navies.[1]
