Star Princess is the secondSphere-classcruise ship operated byPrincess Cruises, and is the third ship to sail for the cruise line under this name.Star Princess was ordered fromFincantieri and was constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard inMonfalcone, Italy.
Star Princess, the second of theSphere-classcruise ships is powered byliquefied natural gas (LNG).[1] The vessel, sharing the same basic design as its sister ship,Sun Princess, is measured at 177,882 gross tonnage (GT)[2] and has a length of 1,133 feet (345 m)[2] and abeam of 155 ft (47 m).[3] The cruise ship has a maximum speed of 22knots (41 km/h; 25 mph).[3]Star Princess has capacity for 4,300 guests.[4] The vessel has 20 decks total of which 17 are passenger-accessible and 10 with cabins on them. There are 2,162 cabins aboard the ship, served by a crew of 1,547.[3] Changes for its sister ship include an increased family/sporting area on its top deck, additional seating in restaurants andslot machines at the on-boardcasino.[4]
The vessel is the second largest and second ship powered by LNG to be constructed atFincantieri's shipyard inMonfalcone, Italy.[1] In April 2024, Princess Cruises announced that the delivery ofStar Princess would be delayed by two months.[5] The ship waslaunched on 26 September 2024, christened by Chiara del Vecchio, 3rd Engineer aboardSun Princess, and Francesca Maraventano, executive assistant at the Monfalcone shipyard.[1] She completed her sea trials in August 2025.[6] The vessel is expected to be delivered on 26 September 2025.[5]
The ship was initially planned for entry into service in late July 2025, but after construction delays, the planned maiden voyage is set for 4 October 2025. After sailing around theMediterranean Sea, visiting several ports, the ship will redeploy to theCaribbean Sea in November 2025.
The Star Princess had her naming ceremony inPort Everglades on November 6, 2025, christened byCamila Alves and her husbandMatthew McConaughey using a giant bottle of their Pantalones Tequila.[7] The ships sailed on her maiden Caribbean voyage on November 7, 2025, where the ship will be based for the winter, before sailing west for a maiden Alaska season.[8][9][failed verification]
