Stéphane Patrick Porato (born 19 September 1973) is a French former professionalfootballer who played as agoalkeeper.
In his country Porato representedSporting Toulon,AS Monaco FC,Olympique de Marseille (where he played in the1999 UEFA Cup Final),US Créteil-Lusitanos andAC Ajaccio, mainly as a backup or starting in thesecond division. On 13 November 1999 he earned his solecap forFrance, appearing in a 3–0friendly win withCroatia.[3]
In late October 2006, as he had already moved to Spain withsecond level'sDeportivo Alavés, followingAjaccio's relegation fromLigue 1, Porato had a trial atChelsea in view of signing as third-choice after the long-termskull injury toPetr Čech.[4] Eventually, nothing came of it.[citation needed]
Porato joinedXerez CD, in the same country and tier, for the2007–08 season. A starter in his first year, he lost the job inthe following as theAndalusians achieved a first-everLa Liga promotion, being released in July 2009.[5]
