Sri Venkateswara University (commonly referred asS. V. University orSVU) is apublicstate university located inTirupati inAndhra Pradesh, India. The university is named afterLord Venkateswara, whose shrine is located in the city.

The university was founded in 1954 by the thenChief minister of Andhra Pradesh,Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu andSiram Govindarajulu Naidu as its founder vice-chancellor.[2] The university campus covers a large area on land leased byTirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. It is located on the West side ofTirupati, surrounded by the other universities in the city, namelySri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam,Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University,Sri Venkateswara Vedic University,Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences andNational Sanskrit University.

Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering is an autonomous institution whose foundation was laid by the late PanditJawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, on 13 October 1959.[3]

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics hosts one of the four national research facilities: a center for research using theMST Radar Facility at Gadanki, commissioned under the UGC.[4]

Sri Venkateswara University was ranked 1201–1500 in the world by theTimes Higher Education World University Rankings of 2023[6] and 351–400 in Asia.[7] TheQS World University Rankings of 2023 ranked it 351-400 in Asia.[5] The university was ranked 101-150 overall in India by theNational Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2023,[8] 60th among universities[11] and 251-300 in the engineering ranking.[12] TheNIRF ranked the university between 201-300 in the engineering rankings in 2024.[13]
