Amazon first acquired sports rights in April 2017, when they signed a $50 million deal for the non-exclusive rights to stream portions of theNFL'sThursday Night Football games during the2017 NFL season toPrime andPrime Video subscribers, replacing a previous deal withTwitter.^[1] Since then Amazon has acquired exclusive sports rights in 10 countries, includingAustralia,Canada,Brazil,France,Germany,Italy and theUnited Kingdom. Premier rights include theCopa do Brasil in Brazil,Ligue 1 and theFrench Open in France, theUEFA Champions League in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy, thePremier League in the United Kingdom, theNHL'sMonday Night Hockey in Canada, andThursday Night Football in the United States.

In December 2022, Amazon launchedSports Talk in the United States; afree ad-supported streaming televisionsports talk channel produced in partnership withEmbassy Row.^[2] The channel was shut down in October 2023.^[3]

Prime Video also offers several "channels" for live sports. These channels are separate, non Amazon subscription services, which add a cost on top of Amazon Prime, but, when purchased, can be accessed through Amazon Prime.
