Sphindidae is a family ofbeetles, in the suborderPolyphaga.[1][2] They are calledslime mold beetles due to their exclusive feeding onslime molds during adult and larval stages, other aspects of their life history are obscure.[3] Palaeontological discoveries since 2015 have added to the geologic history of Sphindidae, including the discovery ofLibanopsis, placed in the extinct subfamilyLibanopsinae.

Additionally the extinct subfamilyLibanopsinae contains the genusLibanopsis encompassing five species fromCretaceousLebanese amber.[10]
