TheSpanish Constitution of 1869 (Spanish:Constitucion española de 1869), enacted on 1 June 1869, was the sixthconstitution of theconstitutions of Spain to emerge from the turbulent period inSpanish history of1814-1873.
The constitution was adopted by the SpanishProvisional Government of 1868-1871 which was formed after the successfulGlorious Revolution of 1868 that ended the autocratic reign ofIsabel II of Spain, creating aconstitutional monarchy, with MarshalFrancisco Serrano, 1st Duke of la Torre as regent, recognizing thefreedom of religion for the first time. The constitution restored theuniversal manhood suffrage established by theConstitution of 1812, and declared also thefreedom of the press, thefreedom of assembly and thefreedom of association.[1] The constitution came into effect during the reign ofAmadeo I of Spain.
