TheSoutheastern Anatolia region (Turkish:Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi) is ageographical region ofTurkey. The most populous city in the region isGaziantep. Other big cities areŞanlıurfa,Diyarbakır,Mardin andAdıyaman.

It is bordered by theMediterranean region to the west, theEastern Anatolia region to the north,Syria (Rojava) to the south, andIraq (Southern Kurdistan) to the southeast.

Geography and climate

The Southeastern Anatolia region has an area of 59,176 km2 and is the second smallest region of Turkey. It has asemi-aridcontinental climate with very hot and dry summers and cold and often snowy winters.
