TheSouth River is a 10.6-mile-long (17.1 km)[1] river in easternNew Hampshire and westernMaine in theUnited States. It is a tributary of theOssipee River, which flows east to theSaco River and ultimately theAtlantic Ocean.
The South River begins at the outlet ofProvince Lake in the town ofEffingham, New Hampshire, and proceeds north past the village of Center Effingham. Jogging east, the river entersParsonsfield, Maine, then turns north again to reach the Ossipee River.
