Sorgues (French pronunciation: [sɔʁɡ] ;Occitan :Sòrgas ) is acommune in the southeastern Frenchdepartment ofVaucluse . The riverOuvèze , a tributary of theRhône , as well as its tributarySorgue , which begins at theFontaine de Vaucluse , run through the commune.[ 3] [ 4] Sorgues, which had a population of 18,680 in 2017, is located just north ofAvignon , on the border withGard .
According toThe Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas byGertrude Stein ,Georges Braque lived in Sorgues after being wounded during theFirst World War .[ 5]
