Sophie Elizabeth Naseem Munro (born 31 August 2001) is an Englishcricketer who most recently played forNottinghamshire,The Blaze andLondon Spirit. She plays as a right-armmediumbowler. She previously played forSunrisers, as well asYorkshire Diamonds in the2018 Women's Cricket Super League andTrent Rockets inThe Hundred.[1][2]
Munro made her county debut in 2017, forNottinghamshire againstMiddlesex, in which she took 5/24 from 7.1 overs.[3] She then took 4/28 in her second match the following day againstBerkshire, making it 9 wickets across her first weekend playing county cricket.[4][5] In 2019, Munro was Nottinghamshire's leading wicket-taker (and joint fifth overall) in the2019 Women's County Championship, with 14 wickets at an average of 17.85.[6][7] She took six wickets for Nottinghamshire in the2021 Women's Twenty20 Cup, helping the side win the East Midlands Group of the competition.[8] She took five wickets for the side in the2022 Women's Twenty20 Cup, as well as hitting her maidenTwenty20 half-century, 59* againstDerbyshire.[9][10]
Munro was also part of theYorkshire Diamonds squad in the2018 Women's Cricket Super League. She played one match, againstLoughborough Lightning, but did not bat or bowl.[2][11]
In 2020, Munro played forLightning in theRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. She appeared in five matches, taking 4 wickets with a best of 3/32 in the side's first match againstNorth West Thunder.[12][13] In 2021, she took six wickets at an average of 29.66 for the side in theRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, as well as a further six wickets in theCharlotte Edwards Cup.[14][15] She also played five matches forLondon Spirit inThe Hundred, taking three wickets at an average of 37.00.[16] She played eleven matches for Lightning in 2022, across theCharlotte Edwards Cup and theRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, taking six wickets.[17][18] She also hit her maidenList A half-century, scoring 50 againstNorth West Thunder in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.[19] InThe Hundred, Munro moved toTrent Rockets, playing four matches.[20][21] In November 2022, it was confirmed that Munro had signed a professional contract with Lightning, now known as The Blaze.[22]
In 2023, she played 17 matches for The Blaze, across theRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and theCharlotte Edwards Cup, taking 14 wickets.[23][24] She also returned to London Spirit inThe Hundred, playing three matches and taking two wickets at an average of 16.00.[25]
In May 2024, it was announced that she was going on loan toSunrisers for the2024 Charlotte Edwards Cup.[26] Munro's loan was later extended until the end of July, and later extended again until the end of the season.[27][28] She played 15 matches for Sunrisers, across theRachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and theCharlotte Edwards Cup, taking 26 wickets with a best bowling of 5/25.[29][30] She also played five matches for The Blaze in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, taking eight wickets at an average of 15.50, making her the joint-second highest wicket-taker in the tournament.[31]
In October 2024, Munro signed forEssex Women ahead of the 2025 women's domestic cricket restructure.[32][33]
