Social Alternative (Italian:Alternativa Sociale) was acoalition offar-rightpolitical parties in Italy.
The coalition grew fromSocial Action, which was founded byBenito Mussolini's granddaughterAlessandra Mussolini after she left theNational Alliance[1] due to their attempts to move away from the party'sfascist past. The group was committed to a strongItalian nationalism that celebrated and glorified its past, and has been particularly critical ofGianfranco Fini's modernisation of the right.[citation needed] The alliance was disbanded in late 2006 and replaced by a new pact between Social Action,New Force, theSocial Idea Movement, and theNational Volunteers [it].[citation needed]
Mussolini united her group with the Social Action for the2004 European Parliament election, getting 1.23% of the vote and gaining one seat in theEuropean Parliament.
TheTricolour Flame joined the alliance for the2005 regional elections, only to leave it some months later.
In the2006 Italian general elections the coalition was a member of the defeatedHouse of Freedoms and won no seats.
