Regional badminton championships

TheSmall States of Europe Badminton Championships is a regional badminton tournament sanctioned byBadminton Europe to crown the best badminton players and teams between themicrostates of Europe.

History

The idea of establishing a badminton tournament for thesmall states of Europe began in 2017 during theBadminton Europe Congress inPrague.Malta,Cyprus, andMonaco envisioned a team badminton event uniting small European states, as badminton is not part of theGames of the Small States of Europe (GSSE). The tournament was then confirmed and planned to be held biennially starting from 2020 inLarnaca, Cyprus, withMonaco hosting the second edition.[1] However, the tournament was postponed due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[2]

The championships were finally materialised in November 2023 whenMalta successfully hosted the inaugural edition of the championships inCospicua.[3] In the inaugural edition of the championships, only the mixed team event was held.[4][5][6][7]
