Sloosh was a form ofcornbread that was popular during theAmerican Civil War, especially amongConfederate soldiers.[1] Civil war historianShelby Foote described it as a mixture ofcornmeal andbacon grease to make a dough, snaked around aramrod from arifled musket, and cooked over acampfire.[2]
