TheSlama Carol orSlama Kali (literally "Play of peace") is aSyrian Christian traditional musical artform that originated in the coastal areas ofAlappuzha andCochin inKerala,India.[1][2]

Etymology

Slama (Malayalam:ശ്‌ലാമ,Syriac:ܫܠܡ) means peace inAramaic language.[3] Kali (Malayalam:കളി) means aplay ordrama.

Theme

Theresurrection of Jesus is the central theme of this artform. It uses colourful costumes for Characters of such asJesus,Apostles,Virgin Mary, etc. In this musical dance, happiness is the predominant emotion.[1][2]
