TheSkway First Nation, (officiallyShxwhá:y Village), is aband government of theStó:lō people living in theFraser Valley ofBritish Columbia, Canada near the city ofChilliwack. They traditionally speak the Upriver dialect ofHalkomelem, one of theSalishan family of languages. The band is a member government of theSto:lo Nation tribal council, and should not be confused with theSkwah First Nation, which is in the same area but is a different band.
The band administers threeIndian Reserves:[1]
The band also shares with 20 other bands thePeckquaylis Indian Reserve, formerlySt. Mary's Indian Residential School atMission, which is now a cultural, government and aboriginal business centre.
The Skway are at Stage 4 inBritish Columbia Treaty Process with the rest of theSto:lo Nation tribal council.[2]
