Skhira (Arabic:الصخيرة) is a coastal town inSfax Governorate, central-easternTunisia. It is located at around34°18′2″N10°4′15″E / 34.30056°N 10.07083°E /34.30056; 10.07083. It lies on the coast of theGulf of Gabes. It has a largeoil terminal for pipelines coming from the Tunisian andAlgerian oilfields. The old village grew in the late nineteenth century as the centre of the export trade inesparto grass, used in the manufacture ofpaper.
