TheSkalnaté pleso Observatory (Slovak:Observatórium Skalnaté pleso;obs. code:056) is anastronomical andmeteorological observatory in theTatra Mountains ofSlovakia.^[1]^[2] It is located at an altitude of 1,786 metres (5,860 ft) on the south-eastern slopes ofLomnický štít nearTatranská Lomnica. The observatory is named after a nearby mountain lake (Skalnaté pleso, literally: "RockyTarn").

The observatory produced the popular sky atlasSkalnate Pleso Atlas of the Heavens byAntonín Bečvář, who founded the observatory in 1943. It is also known for its visualcomet hunting and for itsastrometric observations and discoveries ofminor planets. The asteroid2619 Skalnaté Pleso was named in honor of the observatory.^[2]

Noted astronomers who worked at the observatory includeMilan Antal,Antonín Mrkos,Ľudmila Pajdušáková andMargita Kresáková (née Vozárová), as well asAlois Paroubek andRegina Podstanická. Discoveries include the minor planets1807 Slovakia and1989 Tatry.
