Skakavac (Serbian Cyrillic:Скакавац,lit. "grasshopper") is awaterfall formed on thePerućica, a mountain creek, in thePerućica, which is regulated as aStrict Nature Reserve as part ofSutjeska National Park inBosnia and Herzegovina. It is one of the highest waterfalls in the country, at about 75 metres (246 ft) in height.[1]
The Perućica primeval forest ofbeech andspruce is situated beneathMaglić (2,386 m), the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and separated fromZelengora mountain by the canyon of theSutjeska river. Perućica creek cuts through the Perućica forest and descends between two steep Maglić slopes. Near the middle of its course, the stream cascades from the upperhanging valley to the lower valley, falling 75 meters from akarstic limestone precipice to reach its confluence with theSutjeska river in the valley ofTjentište.[2]
