TheSistine Chapel of Football (also known as"The Creation of Football" ) is an artwork exhibited at the Sportivo Pereyra club fromBarracas inBuenos Aires ,Argentina . It honors two Argentine footballers,Lionel Messi andDiego Maradona , as well as other notable Argentine players includingJuan Román Riquelme ,Gabriel Batistuta ,Mario Kempes ,Sergio Agüero ,Claudio Caniggia ,Ricardo Bochini andAriel Ortega .[ 1] [ 2]
Inspired byMichelangelo 's classicfresco ,The Creation of Adam Sistine Chapel inRome , it was created in 2014[ 3] graphic designer andartist Santiago Barbeito (akaSantuke ).[ 4] social media .[ 5] [ 6]
In 2014, the club authorities decided to paint the ceiling of the main indoor pitch.[ 7] [ 7] [ 8] "For us this is a sacred temple of football and what better way to express it with a suitable ceiling, one like the Sistine Chapel," Ricardo Elsegood, the club's head coach told local media.[ 9] [ 10] [ 11]

The artwork is adigital photomontage printed on eight stretched canvases that reach approximately 500 m².[ 5] [ 15]
Produced through donations, its cost is valued at around $20,000USD .[ 16] [ 17] [ 18]
Sportivo Pereyra club is located on 2785 Alvarado Street inBarracas , aneighbourhood of Buenos Aires , a few blocks away fromLa Bombonera , the stadium owned byBoca Juniors , one of Argentina's top football clubs.[ 10] [ 19]
