From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sindukht comes toSam Bearing Gifts, Miniature from theShahnameh of Shah Tahmasp.Tabriz, c. 1525-30.Aga Khan Museum

Sindukht (Persian:سیندُخت) (meaning "the daughter ofSimorgh)[1] is the wife ofMehrab Kaboli and the mother ofRoodabeh, in the Persian epic poemShahnameh byFerdowsi. She is described as "a beautiful and intelligent woman". When she learned about the love between Roodabeh andZāl, she first became angry, arguing thatSām (father of Zāl) andManuchehr (then king ofIran) would disapprove of their marriage and so they would destroyKabul (because they worshiped different religions and Mehrab was ofZahhak's descendants), but when Zāl managed to convince Sām and Manuchehr, Sindukht and Mehrab also supported their marriage. She is the grandmother ofRostam.
