Simona Tabasco (born 5 April 1994) is an Italian actress. Tabasco played the role of Lucia Greco inthe second season of theHBOblackcomedy-drama seriesThe White Lotus, which earned her aPrimetime Emmy Award nomination. She also gained recognition for her supporting role in the Italianneo-noir filmPerez. (2014) and as Elisa Russo in theRai 1 medical dramaDoc – Nelle tue mani (2020–present).

Early life

Simona Tabasco was born in Naples on 5 April 1994.[1] She is the daughter of an advertising graphic designer and an office worker. She has a twin brother named Marco.[2]

Career

In 2013, after shooting two short films at theGiffoni Film Festival, Tabasco was cast in the second season of the Italianteen drama seriesFuoriclasse.[2] Broadcast onRai 1 in March 2014,[3] Tabasco portrayed Aida Merlissi, a Muslim girl.[2] Filming forFuoriclasse interrupted her studies at theCentro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, ultimately leading to her expulsion due to repeated absences.[4]

In 2014, she made her film debut inEdoardo De Angelis'sPerez., which received critical acclaim.[5] For her role as Tea, daughter of the protagonist Demetrio (portrayed byLuca Zingaretti), Tabasco was awarded the Premio Guglielmo Biraghi at the 2015Nastro d'Argento awards.[6]

Since 2020, Tabasco has starred in the Italian medical dramaDoc – Nelle tue mani, playing Elisa Russo, a resident ininternal medicine.[2]

In 2022, Tabasco made her international debut in thesecond season of theHBOanthology seriesThe White Lotus.[7][8][9][10] Her performance as Lucia, a sex worker in Sicily,[11] received praise.[12]CNN's Brian Lowry wrote that it "feels like a breakout role".[13]Nylon magazine deemed her the "lifeblood" of the show, writing, "Lucia's energy is so infectious, thanks to the frenzied, effortless performance from Tabasco".[14] Tabasco won theScreen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series along with the cast ofThe White Lotus.[15] She also received an Emmy nomination in 2023 forOutstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal.[16]

In February 2023, Tabasco was cast oppositeSydney Sweeney in the psychological horror filmImmaculate.[17]

In March 2023, Tabasco was included inForbes magazine's annual30 Under 30 list, which recognises the 30 most influential people in Europe under the age of 30.[18]
