Simon Joshua Lipkin (born 9 January 1986) is an English actor, best known for his work inmusical theatre. He has originated roles in several majorWest End musicals such asAvenue Q andRock of Ages. His television work includesThe Amazing World of Gumball andDoctor Who. He has acted in small roles in film as well as in the starring role in 2018 comedyNativity Rocks!.

Early life

Lipkin grew up inGants Hill, East London.[1] He attended Ilford Jewish Primary School,Bancroft's School and theSylvia Young Theatre School. He graduated in 2005 from theArts Educational School (ArtsEd) with a degree in musical theatre.[2]

Career

In 2006 Lipkin played Nicky/Trekkie as part of the original London cast ofAvenue Q in at theNoël Coward Theatre.[3]

He appeared in the 2010/11 UK tour ofMonty Python'sSpamalot before playing Lonny in the original London cast ofRock of Ages which opened in 2011.[4]

In 2014 he appeared inI Can't Sing!.[5] He then played the role of Proprietor in theMenier Chocolate Factory production ofAssassins.[6]

He appeared as Lead Man inI Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change in 2015, followed by puppeteering the Lorax inThe Lorax at theOld Vic.

In 2016 he played Lou Lubowitz inMiss Atomic Bomb and Bill Sykes inOliver before joining the cast ofGuys and Dolls atThe Savoy Theatre, London as Nathan Detroit, starring oppositeRebel Wilson as Miss Adelaide.[7]

Lipkin along with comedian and composerVikki Stone hosted the 2017WhatsOnStage Awards at thePrince Edward Theatre in London. Later on he was part of the original cast of the newDuncan Sheik musicalWhisper House atThe Other Palace in London.[8] He played the role of Ratty inThe Wind in The Willows at theLondon Palladium from June to September 2017,[9] before playing Mr Poppy inNativity! The Musical (having previously appeared inNativity 3: Dude Where's My Donkey?! as Chief Elf) from October 2017 to January 2018 on a UK tour.[10]

He has also appeared in a small role inShow Dogs with fellow theatre starOliver Tompsett which was released in Spring 2018.

Also in 2018 Lipkin starred inDeborah Isitt’s fourth Nativity film -Nativity Rocks! alongsideDaniel Boys andCraig Revel Horwood.[11]

In 2019 he starred as Professor Phillip Goodman inGhost Stories at theLyric Theatre (Hammersmith).[12]

He was cast as Louis Drake inDeborah Isitt’s 2022 filmChristmas On Mistletoe Farm, along withScott Garnham,Kathryn Drysdale andAshley Jensen.

Lipkin starred as Buddy inElf the Musical at theDominion Theatre alongsideGeorgina Castle from November 2022 to January 2023.[13]

He was also in Derren Brown'sUnbelievable in London's West End.

In 2024, Lipkin playedFagin inCameron Mackintosh's revival ofOliver!. A co-production betweenDelfont Mackintosh andChichester Festival Theatre, the show played at the venue from 8 July - 7 September before a transfer toLondon's West End atThe Gielgud Theatre from 14 December 2024.[14][15][16][17]

Personal life

Lipkin is married to actress andElf co-starGeorgina Castle. The couple married in September 2025 as revealed in the Daily Mail.[18]
